It's Official: JERRY CANTRELL, BILLY DUFFY Form New Band
March 2, 2004Jerry Cantrell's manager Bill Siddons has confirmed to Launch that the former ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist has formed a new band with former THE CULT axeman Billy Duffy (as first reported here Feb. 29). Siddons, however, was unable to confirm that ex-MÖTLEY CRÜE vocalist John Corabi had also been jamming with the two guitarists. The new project, which Siddons describes as "Jerry having fun," does not have an official name and is expected to feature a revolving cast of players and special guests. The band will perform on April 12 at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, at a benefit for the Sweet Relief organization.
Siddons told Launch that Cantrell got the idea for the new band after appearing with CAMP FREDDY, a similar project that features JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro, various former members of GUNS N' ROSES, and a number of guest performers.
The Cantrell/Duffy project will play mostly cover tunes, plus selected material from their previous bands. Sweet Relief, founded by singer/songwriter Victoria Williams in 1994, provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians who are facing illness, disability, or age-related problems.
